Nitrogen Part 1: Introduction with Phoebe Gordon

Nitrogen Part 1: Introduction with Phoebe Gordon

In the first episode of our nitrogen in tree crops miniseries, I sit down over Zoom with Phoebe Gordon to talk about the 4 R’s of nitrogen management.

When discussing the right rate, we talk about Liebig's law of the minimum, and how nitrogen isn’t necessarily what’s limiting yield in your orchard. The law can be pictured as a water filled barrel, where the shortest stave, whether it be light, water, a mineral nutrient, pest or disease could be the limitation.

We are not providing fertilizer recommendations, instead we are sharing educational resources.

Thanks to the Pistachio, Almond, Walnut and Prune Boards of California for their generous financial support. Music by Muriel Gordon.
